Retired Major General Tammy Smith’s journey begins with invisibility. Her piece of the mosaic was not welcome in the US Army. Her commitment to serving the nation was frequently at odds with her true-life story, which she guarded jealously and kept deeply hidden. Her path to visibility and acceptance reached an apex when she took the keys to her new home on Fort Belvior, Virginia.
