The 2021 International Transactions in U.S. Residential Real Estate was just released! This report includes data from April 2020-March 2021 and includes highlights such as:
- $54.4 BILLION foreign buyer residential purchases
- 58% resident foreign buyers
- 42% non-resident foreign buyers
- TOP 5 FOREIGN BUYERS
- Canada – 8% of foreign buyers ($4.2B volume)
- Mexico – 7% of foreign buyers ($2.9B volume)
- China – 6% of foreign buyers ($4.5B volume)
- India – 4% of foreign buyers ($3.1B volume)
- United Kingdom – 4% of foreign buyers ($2.3B volume)

- Florida (22%)
- California (15%)

Additional takeaways:
- 45% of NAR REALTORS® who work with international clients reported the pandemic had NO IMPACT on their international client business.
- China, which has been #1 in the number of homes purchased since 2015, has fallen to #3 at 6%. However, it remained as the largest foreign buyer in terms of the dollar volume ($4.5B).
- Argentina, Israel, Italy, Japan, and Colombia rounded out the top 10 countries of origin of foreign buyers.
- Other major destinations were North Carolina, Ohio, Georgia, and Michigan, each accounting for 3%.
- Survey respondents reported foreign buyer purchases in 45 states and in the District of Columbia.
